Cosplay at Anime South IV

Please note that the rules below only pertain to you if you desire to enter the Cosplay Contest on Saturday night. However, as you can see from these slideshows, you can dress as your favorite anime or manga character just for fun!

1. All Costume Contest participants must be registered Anime South IV convention attendees.

2. Costumes must, in some way, pertain to some facet of Japanese anime, manga, video games, or Asian pop culture.

3. No store-bought, rented, or commissioned costumes will be allowed to participate in the Costume Contest. However, store bought props and/or pieces are allowed. Also, you may a use a model for your costume if you don’t want to physically enter. Just make sure you state that the person wearing the costume is a model, and not the creator, on your form.

4. Your costume must be at least 50% crafted. In other words, no store bought jeans, T-shirt, dress or suit costumes. This contest is for judging the creation of a costume, not how well you model bought pieces of clothing.

5. Each participant must show his or her costume on stage at the Costume Contest in "catwalk" style. Each contestant must also be present for judging before the event (see below for judging specifics).

6. You must have your entry form in by 1 p.m. Saturday. No late forms will be accepted.

7. When you register you will be given a number and a time. You must be in costume at the prejudging room at this time. If you are late you will not be able to enter.

8. You can enter as a group; however, only one award will be given per group.

9. On stage time will be limited to 30 seconds. Make sure that you pick a couple of poses to strike while on stage. You’ll want to make sure that the cameras can catch you!

10. Only ONE entry per person.

11. In conjunction with the Anime South Convention Weapons policy, the following are not permitted on stage:

  • Real guns (working, disabled, or otherwise)
  • Metal blades (knives, swords, sharp wings, etc.)
  • Projectile weapons (pellet guns, airsoft rifles/Hand guns, disc guns, etc.)
  • Loaded water pistols or other liquid "weapons"
  • Practice swords (unless they can be peace bound into a scabbard of some sort)
  • Any other potentially harmful weapon/prop as determined by Anime South staff
If you have a prop weapon bring it to registration to be peace bound. If it is not peace bound it will not be allowed on stage.

12. This is a family convention and as such we need keep it PG-13. No nudity, t-back or suggestive gestures.

13. No substances that can be harmful to you, the staff, or the audience will be allowed. This can include, but is not limited to: silly string, water, flames, explosives, and paint. Make sure that anything that comes onto stage with you leaves with you.

14. You must have a reference image of your character at prejudging. We may not know who your character is or what it's supposed to look like.

15. No Skits. If you wish to perform a cosplay skit, please enter it in our talent show.
